Somnath Temple

Somnath Temple is revered as the first among the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and stands on the western coast at Prabhas Patan. The sea breeze, evening illumination, and constant chant of “Jay Somnath” make the experience deeply spiritual.

The temple is linked with the story of Chandra (Moon God), who is believed to have worshipped Shiva here and regained his radiance. Over centuries, the shrine was rebuilt multiple times, and the modern temple was reconstructed in the mid-20th century.

Devotees come for darshan, aarti, and to spend time near the sea-facing temple complex. In the evening, many visitors also watch the famous Sound & Light Show held at night.

Timings: Darshan is generally available from 06:00 AM to 09:00 PM (timings can vary on special days).

How to reach: Somnath is in Gujarat (Gir Somnath district). You can reach via road from nearby cities; Veraval is a common nearby rail point, and local transport is easily available around Prabhas Patan.
